Personal Story
Julie played tournament golf both as an amateur and professional, competing on the Ladies PGA tour for seven years. Since that time, she has developed a loyal following through private lessons. She moved to the Green Bay area in 2009. As she likes to say, she "took one last drag on that cigar" and competed in the USGA Senior Open qualifier 3 times as well as the Wisconsin Open. While finishing in the money once, she declared she is 'too old' and retired from competing again in 2022.
Julie served as the Program Director and then Executive Director of The First Tee of Northeast Wisconsin, a youth development organization that uses golf to teach life skills and values until 2015. She began the LPGA USGA Girls' Golf for the greater Green Bay area and the greater Escanaba, Michigan area and continues to coach with LPGA Girls' Golf and The First Tee when she is able. Julie offers private coaching to many local junior, high school and college golfers and has seen her students rise to compete at Division 1 and Division 2 college programs.
Julie has four grown children and two grandchildren. Her oldest son, Steve, has Down Syndrome and together, they led a class for cognitively disabled adults at Green Bay Community Church for 12 years. Julie co-chaired a dance held annually for special needs individuals for 3 years. Currently, she and Steve participate in The Mix, a community of individuals with and without disability at GBCC. Julie is married to Dan Van Hoosen and together they enjoy golf, biking, kayaking, skiing and those grandchildren.
